Urgent Appeal to Halt the Ongoing Massacres, Genocidal Violence, and Sectarian Cleansing Against the Alawite Community and Other Minorities in Syria

The Association for Human Rights in Syria (SURİYE İNSAN HAKLARI DERNEĞİ – GESELLSCHAFT für MENSCHENRECHTE in SYRIEN), founded in Mannheim on 12 April 2025, sent today (Friday, 25 April 2025) an urgent appeal to the United Nations Security Council.
The association’s statement says:
Urgent Appeal to Halt the Ongoing Massacres, Genocidal Violence, and Sectarian Cleansing Against the Alawite Community and Other Minorities in Syria
Dear Honorable Members of the United Nations Security Council
On behalf of the Syria Human Rights Association, we urgently call upon the United Nations Security Council to act in response to the widespread massacres and systematic extermination campaigns being carried out against the Alawite community and other religious minorities in Syria.
Based on comprehensive field investigations, documented testimonies, and visual evidence collected between January and April 2025, it is now beyond dispute that these crimes are centrally organized, ideologically motivated, and executed under the leadership of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and its affiliated militias.
The message sent by the President of the Mannheim-based “Association for Human Rights in Syria”, Prof. Dr. Jens Kreinath, was sent to all five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (USA, China, Russia, France and the United Kingdom). In addition, some non-permanent members of the Security Council, the European Parliament and the Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany were also informed.
